Twin Town Old Time Music Festival is excited to partner with the Center for People and Craft to offer a new monthly old time jam every second Tuesday of the month from 7-9pm!

A rotating cast of Twin Cities old time musicians will facilitate the jam. Jam leaders will teach 1-2 tunes for the first half hour (7-7:30pm), followed by an open jam from 7:30-9pm. Participants are welcome to arrive at any time.

Jams will be led by ear. Jam leaders will provide support for those who are new to playing by ear. Bring your own instrument. No preparation is required, but if you'd like to get a jump on learning some tunes that might be played at the jam, you can check out these teaching videos here: https://www.twintownoldtime.org/festival-tunes

Cost: $10 suggested donation

join an old time jam in minneapolis

Old time music is a genre that grew out of the mixing of musical styles brought to the US by people of both European and African descent and musical styles of Indigenous cultures already present in the Americas.

Developed in close relationship to community social dance traditions like square dancing and clogging or flatfooting, old time music is still played at community jams and community dances across the country to this day.
