PROPOSE A CLASS

Do you have a craft, skill, recipe, song, movement practice, or tradition you would like to share?

We welcome experienced teachers as well as people who are ready to teach for the first time. You do not need a polished curriculum or years of classroom experience—just a skill you know well, a genuine interest in sharing it, and an idea for how others might learn through doing — we’ll help you the rest of the way.

Classes at Center for People and Craft have included work-table and stool building, kolrosing, knitting, spinning, natural dyeing, sashiko, tamale making, clogging, and more. As an urban folk school, we prioritize hands-on craft, foodways, music, movement, and living traditions that bring people together across cultures and generations.

Instructors are paid $50 per class hour. Teachers generally provide the materials and tools needed for their workshop, though we have a growing collection of shared classroom tools. Students reimburse instructors directly for material costs.

Submit the brief questionnaire below to tell us about your idea. We will follow up if the class seems like a good fit and help you shape the next steps. Accepted instructors will complete a course template and provide photographs for promotion.
