Celebrate everything June has to offer by making a multicolored turkey wing hand broom. Turkey wing hand brooms are probably the most iconic handmade broom style, and this class takes them up a notch by incorporating more color to the design. Beginners and experienced broom makers are welcome to join.
Tuition: $70 per participant
Materials Fee: $20 to be paid to instructor.
Optional Tools to Bring: All tools are supplied by instructor. Students are encouraged to wear soft soled shoes or socks they are comfortable wearing while tying brooms.
Age / Ability Level: This class is for beginners. Minimum age 18; 15 with an adult.

Students will learn how to make a turkey wing hand broom using broom corn. They will learn how to add more colors of cord into the broom tying process. Natural fiber brooms are a common household item throughout the world. The fiber used varies by region; broom corn is the predominant fiber used in the US.
The class will teach both the fundamental broom tying skills and some more advanced skills. Students will also learn about the broom corn plant and how the different parts of the plant are used in broom making. Students should expect to be seated for extended periods while using both hands and feet.

Students will need to have full use of both hands and feet. They will need to have enough strength to use their feet and hands to hold tension.

If you need to cancel your class within the two week window, a refund is not guaranteed, but will be considered based on several factors.

Eleanna Mathioudis-Goudey is a Minneapolis maker with a particularly strong love for broom making. In fact, she loves it so much she goes by The Broom Bard. Eleanna also dabbles in wood carving and small casework projects. She enjoys teaching others because it encourages curiosity and cultivates community, both things that our world needs a lot of these days.
