SOFT SCULPTURE ALEBRIJES
Wednesdays, September 16 and 23: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Inspired by the fantastical creatures of Mexican folk art, participants will explore the historical and cultural context of alebrijes, tracing their origins and significance within Mexican artistic traditions. Learners will then design and create their own three-dimensional soft sculptures using fabric, hand-sewing, stuffing, and embellishment techniques.
Tuition: $125 per participant
Materials Fee: $15
Required / Optional to bring: All materials and tools will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring personal fabric scraps or embellishments if they would like to incorporate them into their sculpture.

As we build a more robust scholarship program, we hope this initial launch will remove barriers and expand access to hands-on learning for all.
Anyone with financial need is encouraged to apply for a half-tuition scholarship. To be considered, please submit a brief online application. Please note that CENTER FOR PEOPLE AND CRAFT is operating with limited financial resources and an entirely volunteer staff. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a spot for every applicant. CPC is able to provide refunds up to two weeks before the start date of the class for which the registration was submitted, though we do retain a $20 fee for return payment processing. If you need to cancel your class within the two week window, a refund is not guaranteed, but will be considered based on several factors.

Ivonne Yáñez is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist and educator, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She received her MFA in Visual Studies from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and works across textiles, soft sculpture, installation,ceramics and painting. Her practice explores themes of memory, migration, identity, and the material culture of Mexico through contemporary fiber art. In addition to her studio practice, she teaches workshops that combine technical textile skills with the historical and cultural traditions that inspire them. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States and Mexico.
