yoga for the people
Every Friday
12-1pm
Join veteran teacher James Orione in a weekly yoga class at CENTER FOR PEOPLE AND CRAFT! This class is a radical affirmation: your body belongs here. We recognize that systemic harm and racialized stress live in our nervous systems, and we consciously create this space as a sanctuary—a refuge from the hierarchies and exclusionary culture of the outside world.
"Yoga for The People" is an intentional community where we practice tuning into our breath and body as tools for gentle unraveling and re-alignment. This is more than a yoga class; it is a practice in healing justice. We move beyond mere inclusion to actively cultivate an environment where we can listen deeply to our inner wisdom without judgment, honoring each unique path toward wholeness.
We ask for a willingness to be open to your own transformation and to the collective energy of a community built on respect and dignity. Together, we practice not just for individual rejuvenation, but to nourish our collective capacity for justice, change, and interdependence. Here, we align ourselves to better align with each other, moving toward both personal wholeness and collective power.
Class Fee: $10-30 sliding scale, paid directly to instructor
What to Bring: Dress in comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Bringing your own mat is optional.
Age / Ability Level: This is an all levels class; the instructor is experienced in offering variations for beginner to advanced students. If you have any concerns about the practice please speak with the instructor prior to class or email james@bridges.yoga ahead of time.
James Orione has been practicing yoga for 13+ years, and has a foundation in Yoga Nidra, Yin and Restorative styles, which progressed to incorporate asana combined with vinyasa, pranayama, meditation and mantra. He completed his 200 hr. E-RYT yoga teacher training at the Himalayan Institute in Honesdale, PA.
James aims to create a safe space to explore yoga with open and accessible classes for students who are diverse in gender, race, religion, age, and ability. As an African American male he feels it is important to create access and opportunities for BIPOC to explore yoga. Yoga has the ability to loosen the hold of trauma, in any form, that prevents us from living our lives to its fullest. Connect with James by following @bridgesthroughyoga on Instagram and Bridges Through Yoga on Facebook.
What to Expect: James teaches in the Himalayan tradition, rooted in dynamic and flowing sequences of asanas, a strong emphasis on diaphragmatic breathing, pranayama and systematic relaxation. Over the course of his classes students will cultivate a deeper connection with the breath and the body.
Accessibility: This class is offered on a sliding scale of $10-$30. If money is an issue please contact the instructor. Money should not be a barrier to practice.
We actively welcome those marginalized by mainstream spaces, understanding that a just community is built when all people, regardless of identity or background, have access to practices of peace and power. All genders, abilities, body sizes, and experiences are not just welcomed but are essential to our shared vision.
