super spooncarving saturday!

saturday, may 2 ~ 10am - 3pm

A day of spooncarving, knowledge-sharing & community — and a fundraiser to build our shop

We’ll spend the day working with fresh green wood, learning from each other, and moving through the full process—from splitting logs to shaping spoons. Demonstrations will happen throughout the day, but the focus is on carving together, asking questions, and building skills in a relaxed, community setting.

WHO IS IT FOR?

  • New or aspiring spoon carvers looking for a little info to get you started.

  • Veteran carvers looking for some cool carving community.

  • City dwellers looking to get their hands on some good fresh birch wood.

What does it cost?

  • Choose a donation level that works for you, starting at $20.

  • All proceeds go directly toward purchasing carving tools for the Center, helping grow a shared resource that everyone can learn from and use. Every registration includes the same access to the event, regardless of amount.

  • The first 50 registered participants are guaranteed one prime spoon blank to carve or take home. Additional blanks may be available for purchase.

who are the leaders?

  • A group of very experienced instructors and advanced carvers will guide various demonstrations of the splitting, layout, roughing, and refining stages of spoon-carving.

  • Other folks who like to carve spoons and are willing to help are welcome, anyone who likes to share their knowledge.

what do i need to bring?

  • Your spoon carving tools.

  • Folding “camp” chair or stool.

  • Bag lunch or perhaps a dish, drinks, or snacks to share “pot luck”-style.

*We will honor a 45 minute “all tools down” period for eating, stretching and socializing.

what will i learn?

  • This is not a formal class, but there will be various demonstrations given by seasoned carvers teaching all of the steps from the splitting of a log to a nearly finished spoon.

  • We will circle back and repeat various topics, it will be fluid and non-competitive with lots of voices and styles represented.
