Saturday 3/28: 9 AM - 5 PM (includes 1 hour for lunch)

This class will teach you how to prepare Tamales rojo de puerco - Red pork tamales. Here you will learn how to cook your meat, make your masa, assemble a tamal, steam, and experience how my family has been making tamales for decades.

  • Tuition: $130 per participant

  • Materials Fee: $45 to be paid to instructor.

  • Optional Tools to Bring: Participants may bring their own apron and food container to take home tamales.

  • Age / Ability Level: This class is open to people who are comfortable working in a kitchen with multiple people. Minimum age 18.

  • During our time together we will be building relationships with one another. Talking and community are essential to the preparation of a good meal. Food is medicinal, ancestral, and radical. Tamales are a Mesoamerican dish, spanning across Mexico and Latin America, transforming with their environments and surviving colonization. Let’s learn, share, and eat together.

Our tamales will be made with pork, lard, masa, guajillo chiles, onions, garlic, and seasonings. Each person will take home 10-12 tamales.

Bring a lunch. Microwave and toaster oven are available.
