Appliqué As Adornment

Applique, meaning ‘applied’ in French is a method of attaching fabric onto another layer of fabric without exposing the raw edges. Most commonly used in quilting for added embellishment, applique is a technique that can add extra detail. In this workshop, Shug will go over hand stitching methods for flip turn applique. Together, we will discuss ways that adorning our quilts or clothing can imbue meaning into everyday objects.

  • Tuition: $70 per participant

  • Apply for a scholarship

  • Materials Fee: $10-15 (Paid to instructor)

  • Optional Tools to Bring: Thread scissors, needle threaders, embroidery hoop, specific colors of thread you may want to work with, a shirt if you would prefer to boro stitch directly on an article of clothing

  • Age / Ability Level: All ages, Beginner
