Sailor’s Ditty Bag

Thursdays, May 7, 14, 21, 28: 7 - 9 PM

In this class, students build a sailor's ditty bag, a traditional sampler that works through every foundational technique in sailmaking and marlinspike seamanship: seams, reinforcements, shaping, cringles, splicing, knots, and more.

The project is also a framework for something larger: a conversation about craft, tradition, and the quiet satisfaction of making something eminently functional by hand with simple tools. .
