Urban Forage + Lunch

Saturday, August 22: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Step outside and learn to see the city differently.

In this outdoor, hands-on workshop, Blake Southard will lead a walk through Loring Park neighborhood to find, identify, harvest, and taste edible plants growing all around us. You’ll learn about common urban plants you can confidently recognize, with a focus on what’s ready to harvest now, what’s coming up, and what’s past prime.

Learn to identify plants safely, where and when to harvest, how much to take, and how to avoid poisonous plants and contaminated areas. We’ll also dig into the ethics of gathering food from shared urban spaces.

By the end of the workshop, what once looked like a wall of green will begin to reveal itself as a living landscape full of familiar plants, seasonal clues, and things you can actually eat.
